EAZIX: NFS and kernel compile
Before going to work, i figured out what's wrong with my NFS setup. (icopied the configurations from last Friday) It seems that there are
somethings missing from the hosts.allow file, which forbids the client from
accessing the server with portmap (which is used by NFS).
I arrived at the office a few minutes before 10am, which was 2 hours later
than the usual time i arrive, but is just right for their call time. I had
to find another monitor again, but the UPM guys were kind enough to let me
borrow theirs, and since their cpu's were near each other, they just used
one monitor for two computers (they replace the plug whenever output was
needed). After obtaining a display device, i borrowed the laptop again, and
configured NFS on it.
The transfer was, as expected, much faster when transferring from a NFS
mount, in fact, there were no errors on Redhat. On MontaVista, however,
there were some errors that showed up. We assumed that these errors might
be caused by the net driver on MontaVista, since nothing else could be seen
as the source of the errors. With this, we worked on compiling another
kernel with the module for the net driver (for Realtek 8100) built-in. This
took up several hours, because of the long and tedious process of
configuring, building, and compiling a new kernel. In addition, we
encountered several errors, which required us to recompile.
I left the office with the work still being done, that is, the computer's
still compiling the modules. I just queued up the tasks to be done by the
computer overnight, started it, and left, since it's already 9:30pm.
